Almost each and every city in the USA has one, or more self storage units where the people of the community have the ability to store their extra belongings if they do not have room at their home, or if they happen to be moving. Due to the very bad economy, more and more people do not have the money to pay the rent on their storage units. If they fall behind, and don’t pay, they default on their storage unit.
If this happens, the owners of the storage facility have the right to take possession of the renter’s contents, and sell auction off these items to recover the money that was not paid in rent. The best way to find storage unit auctions in your area is by going online. Since newspapers are becoming more and more like dinosaurs, most auctions are now being listed online. However, storage facilities still use the newspapers, so you definitely want to check your newspaper each day for any upcoming storage auctions.
When you do go online, try searching for storage auctions in your city, or in a city near you. The best thing to do is to type in your city as part of the keyword, so if you live in Seattle for example, type in “Storage Unit Auctions Seattle”, or “Seattle Storage Unit Auctions”. Either way should bring up some results in your area. You should be able to find storage facilities online, and many of them post their upcoming auctions on their websites. If you do not see any storage auctions posted on their sites, don’t let that deter you. Call the storage unit facility and ask them if they conduct auctions on their premises. If they do, they may probably have an email list they can put you on, and when they do have auctions, they will send out a mass email to all the members on the list to let them know the dates of their upcoming auctions.
If any storage unit facility tells you that they do not conduct auctions themselves, ask them if they have an auction company that they use, and ask for their contact number, or website. Many auction companies work on the behalf of several, or many storage unit companies, and if you sign up with them, you will be able to go to quite a few different auctions in your general area. In most cases, you can go right to the auction company site and sign up online to be notified of all auctions.
Don’t ever sign up on website that charge a subscription to get on storage auction lists. If you do your research, you will not need to pay anyone to find out about the auctions in your area.
